Founders
Ng Kok Mun
PhD, M.Ed, LPC, LCMHC, NCC, ACS
Dr. Ng [He/Him/His], a licensed counselling practitioner in the U.S., currently serves as a professor of counsellor education at Oregon State University. He regularly conducts counselling-related training in Malaysia. He specialises in couples, marriage, and family counselling and counsellor education and supervision. Dr. Ng employs a culturally informed and social justice-oriented systemic approach in his teaching, supervision, and counselling practice, adeptly utilising various treatment modalities. His extensive background includes designing and instructing both graduate and undergraduate counselling courses, along with a robust publication record in peer-reviewed journals within counselling and related disciplines.
Ann Gunapalan
Ann, a licensed and registered counsellor in Malaysia, practices at KIN & KiDs Marriage, Family and Child Therapy Center in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur and volunteers at her local church as well. She works with adults and sees individuals, couples and adult families. She also supervises trainee counsellors in the settings that she practices in. She favors the existential humanistic approach to therapy and has received training in EFT for individuals and couples. Counselling is Ann’s second career. She was previously in various roles in banking, finance and financial software implementations.
Joey Sin
Joey, a licensed and registered counsellor in Malaysia, founder of Joey Sin Counselling and practices as one of the associates at Raintree Specialist Clinic in Petaling Jaya. She specializes in trauma therapy for adults using EMDR therapy, Brainspotting and emotional parts work. She sees couples for couple therapy as well as addiction recovery counselling via trauma lens. Formerly from banking and business management, Joey is able to provide different perspectives in lives and situations for clients to regain clarity of their choices in life. She believes that everyone is the “Masters” of their own lives and it is a matter of time before they find the power within them to move forward from obstacles.
Nat Siow
Nat [He/Him/His], a licensed and registered counsellor in Malaysia. Graduated with a Masters is Marriage, Couple & Family Counselling, he values collaboratively creating a humanity affirming space with his clients. He employs a relational-cultural approach, on a mission to honor, center, and elevate the voices of systematically oppressed and marginalized communities. He is an LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist.

Nicole graduated with a first-class honors degree in psychology from Inti International College Subang. Her passion for psychology grew from an early curiosity about human behavior and emotions, which deepened as she explored the complexities of personal development and mental well-being. Nicole continues to apply her knowledge and skills, contributing to the team’s success while remaining dedicated to the ongoing exploration of psychology's role in both personal and professional development.

With over 28years of experience in the corporate world, Selinna Chin transitioned to serve in parachurch ministry in 2018, driven by a calling to walk alongside those in need and suffering. She is deeply committed to addressing the emotional and spiritual needs of individuals, providing compassionate support. Currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Counselling at Westminster Theological Seminary, Selinna is set to graduate in May 2025. Her expertise includes counseling individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, and suicidal inclinations, as well as couples seeking relational healing and growth. Selinna’s approach is rooted in empathy, faith, and a desire to bring hope to those in difficult seasons of life. Through her ministry and counseling work, she seeks to reflect Christ’s love and grace, offering a safe space for healing and care.

Dr. MohdZain began his academic career in counsellor education professoriate in 1993 serving institutions of higher education in the United States in various leadership roles (e.g., Academic Dean of College, Department Chair). He is currently with Texas A&M University – Commerce. Prior to his academic career, he served as a clinical counsellor in various settings in the rural Midwest region of the United States.

Lee Chee Siang is a counsellor in Malaysia, specializing in holistic wellness and integrative psychotherapy and holds a PhD in Holistic Wellness Counselling from UKM and two master’s degrees from UPM in Guidance & Counselling and Human Resource Development. With over 25 years of experience and multiple professional certifications, Chee Siang offers individual, family, and group counselling, training, and public talks. He has taught counselling courses at the university level and published four books and numerous papers and articles related to counselling and wellness. Chee Siang is an active media personality, regularly appearing on TV, radio, and in print to discuss mental health topics. He holds memberships in professional counselling associations in Malaysia and abroad. He volunteers with non-profit organizations.

Dr. Muhammad Asyraf Che Amat obtained his PhD in Counsellor Education and Supervision from Texas A&M University-Commerce. He has varied counselling experiences accumulated across a variety of settings in Malaysia and in Texas, U.S. As an academic, he has experience in coordinating and managing the graduate counselling training programs at UPM. Currently, he heads the Department of Counsellor Education and Counselling Psychology at UPM. He is a registered counsellor with the Board of Counsellors Malaysia and also a life member of the International Counselling Association of Malaysia (PERKAMA International). He has also received the Excellent Service Award in 2023 for his excellence as a department head at UPM.

Dr. Alvin Ng, a clinical psychologist, is a full-time academic at Sunway University’s Department of Psychology within the School of Medical and Life Sciences, where he serves as Deputy Dean (International) and Professor of Psychology. He established two professional master's programs at Sunway and one at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Dr. Ng holds honorary academic positions at the University of Exeter and the University of East Anglia. He is the Founding President of the Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology and has served as Secretary of the Asian Cognitive Behavioral Therapies Association. He frequently facilitates talks on mental health and has delivered keynote addresses at numerous conferences locally and internationally. He is passionate about community mental health literacy and committed to the professional development of mental health service providers

Michelle Yip is a multi-hyphenate. Within the performing arts, she is a stage manager and an educator. Her work in education also extends to corporate training for adult learners in the areas of empathic leadership and communications. In photography, her works are predominantly centred around people stories, food development and events. Michelle is also a co-founder for Conscious, a start-up that aims to build a community of impact-driven changemakers in the socio-economic landscape of Malaysia.

Chandra Kumar Vellasamy (KB:02720, PA:03212) is a licensed and registered counsellor in Malaysia. He is attached to the Ministry of Education, Malaysia, as a Psychology and Counselling Officer and is currently working at the District Educational Office. He specializes in school counselling for children and adolescents. He is also registered and licensed in Substance Abuse Counselling under The Colombo Plan (Drug Advisory Programme). Chandra is active in non-governmental organizations, working to build drug-free communities. He is an ardent advocate against sexual abuse among children and adolescents. He firmly believes that change doesn’t happen overnight, but with a little bit of help and guidance, change can happen as planned.

Lim Wai Yee spent the last 30 years building brands and nurturing young professionals achieve their highest potential in the field of branding and marketing. Someone once said of Wai Yee that she cared too much – about the work, about her client’s business and about encouraging young people in the industry to become the best version of themselves. While continuing to stay true to her love of communication and care, Wai Yee took a leap of faith and started a new journey to facilitate the connection of people to their own potential to create excellence in their personal or professional lives.
Today, she is a professionally trained and multiple NLP (neuro linguistics programming) certified psychotherapist and life coach; and continues to enrich her therapy learning journey.

Dr. Ewe is a licensed counselor and an Approved Clinical Supervisor. As an EFT-trained therapist, Dr. Ewe offers individual and couples counseling to clients in Oregon and Washington. With experience counseling individuals, couples, and families in both private and non-profit settings, he has held leadership positions at community mental health clinics. His clinical focus includes supporting individuals coping with grief and loss, providing couples counseling, and facilitating individual therapy sessions. Dr. Ewe's research interests encompass professional identity development in the counseling profession, mentoring, grief and loss, and clinical supervision. He has presented at various international, national, and regional counseling conferences. In 2021, he was awarded the WACES Outstanding Mentor Award. Dr. Ewe was born in Penang, Malaysia.

Dr. Hartini Abdul Rahman is a counseling psychologist and a Registered Counsellor under the Malaysian Board of Counsellors. She was previously a licensed psychologist at Oregon State University, USA.
With over a decade of clinical experience providing strengths-based individual and group counseling, as well as psychological services to young adults from diverse cultural backgrounds, Dr. Hartini specializes in anxiety, depressive, trauma, and stressor-related disorders using various psychotherapeutic modalities. Additionally, her clinical interests include psychological assessment and support for individuals with ADHD and neurodiverse challenges.
Passionate about community mental health, Dr. Hartini is actively involved in workshops and webinars, educating the public on the importance of mental wellness, suicide prevention, and destigmatizing mental health issues. She enjoys teaching, training, and supervising emerging mental health professionals.
Dr. Hartini is committed to providing accessible and multiculturally responsive counseling, promoting connectedness and growth, fostering change, and empowering individuals and communities to live meaningful, fulfilling lives. She offers her services in both English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Prof. Dr. Ida Hartina Ahmed Tharbe is a Registered Counsellor under the Board of Counsellor since 2002. She was previously a counselling lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Universiti Malaya for 22 years.. She served as the Coordinator of the Bachelor of Counselling Program and Masters of Professional Counselling Program during her tenure at the university. She is currently the Treasurer and Exco Member of PERKAMA International (International Malaysian Counselling Association). She is an HRDF Corp Accredited Trainer. She was awarded Professorship from Oxbridge Institute of Professional Development United Kingdom in 2023 and now a Life Research Fellow with OIPD. She is still actively teaching, training and practicing in the field of counselling. Prof. Dr. Ida Hartina’s main areas of expertise are emotional intelligence, group counselling, career counselling, and counselling techniques.

Dr Nicole Chen is a licensed and registered counsellor who has served for over 24 years. She is the founder and Clinical Director of Heal Systemic Therapy Centre. Using her specialised training in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy and Multigenerational FamilyTherapy, Dr. Chen supports couples and families. She was appointed President of the Malaysian Marriage and Family Therapy Association (MyMFT) (2021 – 2023) and reappointed as President from June 2023 to June 2025. In the year 2014, she expanded her work in the international arena and has received Fellow membership of the Asian Academy of Family Therapy (AAFT).

Raymond is also a Certified QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Instructor and a HRDCorp Accredited Trainer. Raymond is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka, and Malay.

Yoki is a licensed and registered counsellor with the Malaysian Board of Counsellors. She holds a Master's degree in Counselling from HELP University. With a decade of experience at KIN and KiDs Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy Center, she specializes in assisting individuals with emotional, relational, family, and career-related challenges. Yoki has a passion for being a change agent beyond the confines of the counselling room. She enjoys seeking out new experiences—visiting new places, trying new food, developing new hobbies, learning new skills, exploring new exercises and activities, meeting new people, etc.—that push her out of her comfort zone and lead to new discoveries, learning, and growth.

Dr. Ng’s doctorate is in counsellor education and supervision. While his practice emphasis area is in couples, marriage, and family counselling, he has provided counselling services to individuals across the developmental lifespan using a variety of counselling modalities. He frequently conducts counselling- and supervision-related training. His teaching, research, service, and counselling experiences have equipped him with knowledge and skills to provide leadership, training, and services related to inclusive and anti-oppressive counselling practices. Dr. Ng is multilingual.

Mr. Vincent Pee has over 30 years of experience in social work, having served as Vice Chairman of the Children Protection Team for Petaling under the Ministry of Welfare/Welfare Department and as Chairman of a well-established NGO. He currently advises the Children's Court and is a Board Member of the Board of Visitors at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). As an independent social worker, he assists abused children, troubled families, and rape victims. Mr. Pee also participated in relief efforts in Nepal following the 2015 earthquake. An avid hiker, he enjoys immersing himself in nature.

Dr. Valli is an award-winning, nationally recognized trauma-informed mental health counsellor and counsellor educator in the United States. She holds a PhD in counselling and counsellor education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Valli is a National Certified Counsellor and a Licensed Professional Counsellor in Oregon. She is the owner and founder of Soulfulness Counseling, LLC, a private practice dedicated to serving women who have experienced early childhood trauma.
An expert on minority women's mental health needs, Dr. Valli has served as a consultant and speaker for several nonprofits and agencies. She is also the Associate Editor for The Professional Counselor, an open-access, peer-reviewed counseling journal dedicated to advancing knowledge in the counseling field. Her research interests include international student mental health and Asian American and Pacific Islander mental health. Dr. Valli is multi-lingual with Tamil as her mother tongue.

Gideon Litherland is honored to collaborate with Soulcare Counseling. Gideon serves on the core faculty of the Counselling Department at the Family Institute at Northwestern University. Gideon is a passionate advocate for excellence in counselling, supervision, teaching, and research and collaboration. Gideon believes in practicing humility and relationship development to affect change in our profession and our communities. He’s excited to support Soulcare Counselling’s work and is committed to interrogating systems of care and education. Gideon received his PhD in Counselling from Oregon State University. He is a licensed clinical counsellor in Illinois and board-certified telemental health provider.

Pei Lim is a licensed and registered counselor with the Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia. She is dedicated to providing therapeutic support to individuals and young adults across different settings, particularly in relation to self, relationships and emotions, one conversation at a time. Her work experience in the non-profit sector, social enterprises, and healthcare access industry, supporting individuals dealing with adverse childhood experiences and cancer, has given her a deeper appreciation of the poignancy, wonder, and meaning of living, dying, and loss.

Brigid Noonan, Ph.D. has been a counselor educator since 1995. She is a licensed clinician in Maryland, DC, New York and Florida as well as a nationally certified counselor (NCC), an approved clinical supervisor (ACS), a certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP), and a certified clinical telemental health provider (CTMH). Currently, she serves as the dean for the School of Nursing and Health Professions at Trinity Washington University. Prior to arriving at Trinity, she was the dean of the School of Health and Human Services at Nazareth University. She oversees undergraduate and graduate programs in counseling, nursing, occupational therapy, public health, and social work.
Brigid received her bachelor’s degree in behavioral science at University College in Maryland (now UMGC), and both her master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling and her Ph.D. in counselor education with a specialization in rehabilitation counseling at the University of Maryland College Park.

Yimfong Voon is a registered counsellor in Australia, specializing in couple and relationship counselling. She has over 18 years of clinical experience supporting a diverse range of individuals and families through challenging life and work transitions, including grief and loss from losing loved ones to cancer. Yimfong grew up in Malaysia, and her cross-cultural experiences beyond Malaysia have had a lasting influence on both her personal and professional perspectives. Thom Field, PhD, is a licensed mental health counselor in the U.S. He keeps an active client load while serving as Chair in the Department of Counseling, Adult, and Higher Education at Oregon State University. He is a pioneer in neuroscience-informed counseling and has co-authored and co-edited books on neuroscience-informed counseling and published scholarly papers on the topic. With experience and expertise in neuroscience-informed counseling, Dr. Field will provide an engaging, informative, and interactive experience for all participants.
